the inside

"it's what's inside that counts"

we often hear that phrase used of ugly people to describe how really, sometimes they're actually nice people. yes, he has a straggly ginger beard - but you should have been there that one time when he told a funny joke...

that's just not right though. we're all pretty nasty on the inside, when we think about it - and no matter how good we make ourselves look, or how charming we try to be with what we say, we're all pretty pants on the inside. I say

"you can't polish a turd... even if you freeze it"
